Studio 3

well well well, i'm sick of doing all the work for my group so now i have to be head slave driver, that's how u get 10 group points!

every1 in my team should be reading my blog and the email i sent them about this task. we did all the sequence diagrams for 1 use case, and i'm currently developing a design class diagram in visio because B block computers don't have VP for UML and i can't get in to K labs anymore since IE took them all over, i love how full they are too, makes me feel so good that the IE students are fully using the faculty's resources. anywho.... yeah i'll put up a pretty image from visio here so that my blog is more colourful.

you can download the visio file here, it's been updated since this diagram to include some methods, i'm still not sure what methods i'm meant to include...

more to come later...

Studio 2: Part 2

Do you have a good team? Why?
I believe we have a good team, we have a good range of skills and we can work co-operatively in team together as we have been a team before and we often work together in our studies.

What makes a good team, what will you have to do as a group to be effective?
A good team has members that are good at seperate things. In our group we have two members that are more from the programming side of IT and two that are more inclided to the more theory and written enlgish type tasks

How will the team make decisions?
The team will make decisions by democracy where possible, when there is a draw, i will make the decision because i am the best. just kidding, it will be decided by who is loudest, nooo, if we have a problem that we can't agree on a solution for we will seek guidance from our wonderful tutor Jake.

How will you work together, how will you communicate?
We will meet every week in studios, outside of tutorials we will communicate using email and face to face because we do alot of the same units together, and where needed we will organise a team meeting outside the normal studio hours.

more to come....

Studio 2: Part 1

What tools did you use?
We used microsoft access to do the databasing, and used visio to model the design.

Was it a difficult task? What parts of the task were difficult and what were easy?
This was a really quite difficult task, figuring out what needed to be in seperate tables was pretty difficult to get third normal form. It's been about a year since i did any of this stuff in great detail so i was difficult to get my mind in to gear. I'm used to making these diagrams from the ground up.
Another difficulty was trying to get all the data across from the old database, there didn't seem to be a nice way of doing it. There were reverse engineering tools in visio and vp but unfortunetly vp only had it in the fancy edition and visio needed the data to be re-entered anyway. It was pretty easy doing the relationships though, that was really easy to do in access. There is no functionality that i found to do joint primary keying, which is a major shortfall.

Was it a realistic task? What was realistic about it, what wasn't?
It is a real task. This actually needs to be done in business, and we could do it. Slightly unrealistic to be able to do it very quickly it took myself and Luke Pocock the whole of the 3 hour studio to do it.

here's the database file if u want it
We designed it to have alot of tables as u can see in the above picture. We were trying to achieve third normal form, which i think we reached. We tried to get all the repeating groups in to seperate tables. i think we went a bit overboard, but oh well.

Studio 1: Additional Tasks

Donald Norman brings up some interesting points in this extract and most of it i agree with except for this diagram

level of preformance required by average users is not a flat line over time. Users are always demanding more. Everyone is always demanding more. It's a basic economic concept that consumers have unlimitted wants, we can never have enough of anything.
*end rant*

Studio 1: Part 2

super cool memo time, i think i need to do this in word to make it look like a proper memo.

so here is the magical memo
